The Pittsburgh Pirates will head down to South Beach to start a four-Game set with the Miami Marlins this Thursday from IoanDepot Park.

Pirates Betting Preview

Pittsburgh comes in at 34-39 after being swept by Chicago. The Pirates were outplayed at home by the Cubs, and they now head down to Miami losers of their last nine straight Games. The Pittsburgh offense is scoring 4.11 runs per Game, while batting .243, with a .321 on-base percentage. The pitching staff carries a 4.34 ERA, with a 1.39 WHIP. Bryan Reynolds’ absence was felt in the last two Games versus Chicago, and there’s a chance he misses time in this series. Reynolds is a big part of Pittsburgh’s lineup, as he leads the team in hits (72) and RBI (40). Andrew McCutchen also sat out the final two Games against the Cubs, and he’ll look to inject some life into the team on this homecoming trip to Florida. McCutchen has recorded a hit in seven of the last nine Games, and he’s batting .264.

Mitch Keller (8-3, 3.62 ERA, 108 Ks) will pitch for Pittsburgh. The fifth-year pitcher struggled in Milwaukee last week, giving up four runs in five innings to the Brewers en route to his third loss of the season. Keller has cooled off after jumping out to a hot start in 2023, after allowing four or more runs in four of his last five starts. Keller has still been reliable from a strikeout standpoint, clearing seven Ks in nine of his last ten outings.

Marlins Betting Preview

Miami moved to 42-33 after dropping two of three to Toronto. The Marlins had their five-Game win streak snapped by the Jays, but they come into a good spot to respond this weekend at home. The Miami offense is scoring 4.00 runs per Game, while batting .260, with a .321 on-base percentage. The pitching staff carries a 4.05 ERA, with a 1.28 WHIP. Luis Arraez has multiple hits in three of the last five Games, and he’s leading the league in batting (.398) and hits (103). Jorge Soler plated three runs in the lone win over Toronto, and he leads Miami in home runs (21) and RBI (45). Bryan De La Cruz has produced a run in three of the last five Games, and he’s posting splits of .274/8/39.

Braxton Garrett (3-2, 3.88 ERA, 77 Ks) will take the mound for Miami. The fourth-year lefty put together a great outing in DC last weekend, striking out eight over six full innings of work, while holding the Nats to just one run. Garrett has allowed two runs or less in six of his last seven appearances, and he’s cleared seven strikeouts in five of those matchups.

Pittsburgh vs Miami Trends

Pittsburgh is 34-39 against the spread this season, with a 35-35-3 O/U record. Miami is 36-39 ATS this year, with a 34-39-1 over/under record. The Marlins are 6-0 in their last 6 home Games vs. a team with a losing record.

Corey’s Free Pick

Pittsburgh is headed in the wrong direction, and even with their ace set to open things up in South Beach, it’s hard to get optimistic for the former early season darlings. Meanwhile, Miami has turned a corner despite being hit by the injury bug and played good baseball this month. They're powered by the best hitter in baseball in Luis Arraez, and after having their winning streak snapped by Toronto, I think they get back on track with a win in Game one. Back Miami this Thursday evening.
