Scamwatch issues warning for online shopping scam appearing Google results

Aussies who like to indulge in online shopping have been warned to watch out for a popular scam technique used to deceive unsuspecting shoppers.

According to Scamwatch, fake retail websites are purporting to be well-known, trusted brands.

The websites can appear in Google as “sponsored”, making them seem even more legit until you look closer at their URL.

“Watch out for scam websites that mimic well-known brands,” Scamwatch said.

“Remember, sponsored websites can be fake, so stop and check the website address to make sure you’re visiting the real online store.

“Super cheap prices can also be a dead giveaway.”
