The Miami Marlins will host the Philadelphia Phillies for game three of their divisional series this Wednesday from IoanDepot park. Philly rallied in the ninth and won by two, 3-1.

Phillies Preview & Projected Starter

Philadelphia moved to 56-47 following the win over Miami. The Phillies used timely hitting to sneak past the Marlins last night, and they’ll look to take a third straight here Wednesday. Rob Thomson’s team currently sits in second place of the NL East, and they currently hold one of the NL Wild Card spots. The Philly offense is scoring 4.13 runs per game, while batting .255, with a .320 on-base percentage. The pitching staff carries a 4.01 ERA, with a 1.23 WHIP.

Zack Wheeler (8-5, 3.67 ERA, 126 Ks) will take the bump for Philadelphia. The eleventh-year pitcher performed well in his Battle of PA matchup with Pittsburgh, striking out eleven over 6.2 innings of work to earn his eighth victory. Wheeler has been a steady presence in the Phillies rotation once again this season, and seven of his last nine outings have resulted in quality starts. Wheeler has posted a 4-1 since the beginning of June, with the one loss coming in Cleveland despite pitching a strong outing (7 IP, 1 ER, 8 K). Wheeler’s two outings versus Miami saw him toss thirteen strikeouts over twelve innings, while allowing four runs combined, and he’ll look to deliver another solid effort here in South Beach.

Phillies Player Trends & Props

Alex Bohm has collected a hit in eight of his previous nine Games,  and he leads Philly in RBI (66), while hitting .282.

Nick Castellanos came through with a big ninth-inning homer to power the Game two victory, and he’s still posting strong splits of .273/15/62.

Bryson Stott is hitless through two Games in Miami, but he’s still posting team-leads in batting (.299) and hits (118).

Kyle Schwarber has taken multiple walks in five straight Games, and he’s among league leaders in homers (27), while leading the Phils with 65 RBI.

Bryce Harper has recorded a hit in eight of the last nine contests, and he’s batting .292, with 31 RBI through 74 games.

Marlins Preview & Projected Starter

Miami moved to 57-51 after losing to Philadelphia. The Marlins let the Phillies come back and steal game two, and they’ll attempt to finish the mission in Wednesday’s contest. Skip Schumaker’s team is currently second in the NL East, and just a game back of the final wildcard spot.  Miami offense is scoring 4.02 runs per game, while batting .260, with a .321 on-base percentage. The pitching staff carries a 4.05 ERA, with a 1.28 WHIP.

Braxton Garrett (5-3, 4.08 ERA, 117 Ks) will take the mound for Miami. The fourth-year lefty bounced back from a pair of rough outings in his matchup with Detroit last week, striking out six over six shutout innings en route to a Marlins win. Garrett regressed a bit after a good month of June, but he did manage to earn a win over Philly last month at home. Garrett didn’t pitch all that well (5 IP, 3 ER, 3 K), and he’ll need to hold his own here in Game three.

Marlins Player Trends & Props

Luis Arraez has multiple hits in seven of the previous nine Games, and he’s leading the majors in batting (.381) and hits (151), with 51 RBI.

Jon Berti has collected a hit in eight of the last ten games, and he’s batting a career-high .293.

Jorge Soler went yard in the game one loss, and he leads Miami in home runs (25) and RBI (56).

Bryan De La Cruz is second on the team in both categories with fourteen homers and 57 runs batted in.

Yuli Gurriel has multiple hits in three of the last five games, and he’s batting .273.

Corey’s Free Pick

Philadelphia snuck through with a back door victory last night in a low-scoring contest, and I think things pick up here in game three. Both lineups have been contained through the first pair of games, and with Miami needing a win, they will likely come out aggressive here against Zack Wheeler, who they’ve seen twice this season. Braxton Garrett has also allowed three runs or more in four of his last starts, so things may also open up offensively for the Phillies. I like Miami defending home turf here after two losses, but let’s test the Over for the NL East matchup.
