Senators vs Red Wings Picks, Predictions & Odds Tonight - NHL
The Ottawa Senators and Detroit Red Wings face off at Little Caesars Arena on Wednesday night for one last game before the All-Star break. The NHL odds have the Red Wings as slight home favorites against their Atlantic Division rival.
Ottawa has been playing better as of late with a 5-2-2 record in its last nine Games. Detroit is still pacing way ahead of the Sens, though, as the Red Wings are 7-2-1 in their last 10 Games to push themselves into a playoff spot.
The Red Wings won the first meeting this season 5-2 in Ottawa before the Senators won 5-4 (OT) and 5-1 in the last two matchups.
Which Atlantic Division foe will head into the break with two points? Read on for our Senators vs. Red Wings NHL picks and predictions on Wednesday, January 31.

Senators vs Red Wings predictions
The Ottawa Senators have had an incredibly disappointing season thus far. Head coach D.J. Smith was fired on December 18 after an 11-15-0 start to the season. They haven't been much better without him at 8-10-2 to bring them to 19-25-2 (40 points) on the season.
On the other hand, the Detroit Red Wings are where some people thought the Senators would be: in a playoff spot at the All-Star break. The Red Wings are 26-18-5 on the season and they've been solid at home with a 14-8-4 record at Little Caesars Arena.
Detroit is 9-2-1 this month (4-1-1 at home) and is looking to close January out strong.
"The break is going to be good for us, but the way we're feeling right now, I'd love to keep it going," Red Wings captain Dylan Larkin said.
The Senators also have a little bit of pep in their step after overcoming a 4-3 deficit to beat the Predators in overtime on Monday night.
"It's great to see how we responded," Claude Giroux, who scored the overtime winner, told the AP. "We didn't change our game, we didn't try to do too much, we just let the game come to us and when we had the chance, we were able to score. This one feels pretty good."
Giroux has been one of the few Senators players to impress this season. The veteran forward is second on the team with 42 points (15 goals, 26 assists) in 46 games.
Giroux's goal on Tuesday gave him points in two straight Games and four of his last five contests overall. He's been fairly consistent all season long with his longest point drought being three Games.
He also likes to play the Red Wings for some reason. He's recorded a point in each of the last two meetings and six of the past seven dating back to last season.
Giroux will look to keep things up and help the Sens head into the break on a high note with at least a point tonight.
My best bet: Claude Giroux to record a point (-160 at Sports Interaction)
Senators vs Red Wings same-game parlay
Claude Giroux anytime goal
Over 6.5
It’s all Giroux all the time on Wednesday night. We’re going with the Senators top-line forward to record a point as our best bet, and we’re taking it up to a goal for our same-game parlay.
The Red Wings have been getting outshot recently despite their strong record. Alex Lyon has been strong in net this season (13-6-1, 2.49 GAA, .924 SV%) but is due to regress to his career save percentage of .910.
Giroux scored in the last meeting in Detroit as well as all four matchups last year.
This should also be a high-scoring Game between Atlantic Division rivals. There were only six goals in the last matchup but the previous six meetings all went Over 6.5.

Senators vs Red Wings moneyline and Over/Under analysis
The Red Wings odds opened around -125 and they’re still in that range. You can get them at -120 (FanDuel) while the Ottawa Senators odds are as high as +105 (DraftKings).
Alex Lyon is already confirmed for the Red Wings so the only potential line movement via goalie news would be on Ottawa’s side. However, there’s not much of a difference between Joonas Korpisalo and Mads Sogaard right now.
The total opened at 6.5 with the Over heavily favored. You can still get Over 6.5 (-148) at FanDuel but it has moved up to a flat seven mostly everywhere else — Over 7 (+105) and Under 7 (-125) at DraftKings.
I would lean slightly to the Red Wings despite the Claude Giroux parlay as well as the Over 7.
